What We Do

At Mapbox, data is foundational. It flows into every product we sell - maps, navigation, or search - and ultimately to our customers. Our map, navigation, search SDKs are used by 175,000 Developers around the world, over 45,000 apps use Mapbox services and the number of Monthly Active Users is over 700,000,000! RAVE is a key division, which is responsible for acquiring, processing, and delivering high quality location-oriented data to enable internal and external Сustomers who use Mapbox maps and Navigation. RAVE consists of 3 Data Teams, 30+ Specialists each, and 3 Core Teams, ~4-5 Engineers each.

RAVE Data Quality team’s mission is to improve maps by providing quality assessment and validation of edits and data sources, i.e. OpenStreetMap and other commercial or open data providers. This team makes our maps live by validation and daily shipping 600K edits. Also the team stands on the front line, facing urgent visual data issues that are reported on our maps by TAM and our Customers, works in close collaboration with Engineers and Managers from the RAVE Tooling team to improve of our pipeline, operational excellence and data coverage, and keeps in close touch with other teams across Mapbox, being an entering point of their data and providing final expertise on its quality.

What You’ll Do

Mapbox is looking for a hands-on manager, with talents in 3 dimensions - planning, metrics and leadership. You will be responsible for organizing and monitoring the team's day-to-day work, developing and coaching the Specialists and Leaders on the team, and making sure everything we work on is driven by customer needs, operational planning and has impact on the overall business.

In this role you will:

  • Manage a big non-engineering Data team (30+);

  • Operate the service and resources day-to-day and be hands-on in project management;

  • Deliver projects while providing technical expertise, guidance and mentorship to your team;

  • Manage and develop the team through hiring, retaining, mentoring, coaching, and continually building the team’s capabilities and improving org. Structure through growing Senior Specialist and Leaders;

  • Drive company, product, and team objectives, carrying your team and relevant stakeholders along in the decision-making;

  • Establish and track operational metrics for your service to ensure the team is meeting SLAs and delivering high-quality data that is satisfying customer expectations;

  • Work closely with Engineering teams and Managers across Mapbox on data projects and POCs;

  • Contribute to operational and resource planning;

  • Work closely with Engineering teams and Managers across Mapbox.

  • Empathize with internal and external customers, and deliver projects that address their needs.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

  • A strong combination of planning, people and project management skills;

  • Previous experience building and leading a high-performing team or owning a high-impact service;

  • Experience building and maintaining projects or services that process large volumes of data, IT or GIS domain is a favor;

  • Experience working with a long-term and mid-term business and resource planning;

  • Experience working with operational and service metrics;

  • Clear and persuasive communication of information in English to a broad audience, and a commitment to fostering and growing cross-team relationships;

  • Ability to take on an ownership role, be able to ramp up quickly, operate independently and work with a certain degree of ambiguity;

  • Readiness to work with a team of 30+ and create a culture where team members can learn & grow with the organization and where you demonstrate investment in coaching and growing your people across all levels.
